چکیده [English] | ||
Introduction Academic libraries serve as critical hubs for knowledge management and scientific innovation. With the increasing complexity of digital information systems, there is a growing need for adaptive management approaches in library operations. Cybernetics, as the science of communication and control in complex systems, offers valuable frameworks for optimizing library management. This study examines the application of cybernetic principles in academic libraries, focusing on Iranian medical universities. The research aims to evaluate current cybernetic components in library management, identify key challenges in implementing cybernetic systems, and develop a tailored model for improving systematic management of information resources. Methodology This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. The quantitative phase involved 97 library professionals from Type 1 medical universities (response rate: 90.72%), selected through stratified convenience sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire assessing five cybernetic dimensions and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS v26. The subsequent qualitative phase included semi-structured interviews with 9 library directors, with data analyzed through thematic analysis in MAXQDA. Findings The analysis identified five key management components: goal setting (accounting for 12.5% of variance), decision-making (21.15%), human resource management (18.27%), change management (28.85%, emerging as the, variable interaction quality among stakeholders, and decision-making delays in complex operational scenarios. Discussion and Conclusion The most critical factor), and stress management (19.23%). Qualitative findings revealed several operational challenges, including difficulties in monitoring hybrid physical/digital environments, system linkage issues between traditional and digital platforms, hierarchical communication barriersstudy conclusively demonstrates that cybernetic principles - with particular emphasis on dynamic adaptation through change management - significantly improve library management effectiveness. Three critical success factors emerged from the findings: adaptive monitoring systems, responsive decision-making processes, and quality interaction mechanisms. The research presents a practical cybernetic model specifically designed to support academic libraries navigating digital transformation. Looking forward, the study recommends two key directions for future research: longitudinal implementation studies across diverse cultural contexts, and focused development of cybernetic competencies among library information professionals to ensure sustainable adoption of these management approaches. This study emphasizes the necessity of a balanced approach to library management that integrates both quantitative and qualitative dimensions, highlighting the importance of meaningful user interactions and change management.
