| چکیده | ||
| Public narrative is a practice for leadership development which serves as a leadership exercise designed to inspire others to take action together for a common goal. Public narrative has been explored in many areas of humanities. Yet, no study has examined the categories of Public narrative in paratexts of Qur’an translations. This study aimed to explore subcategories of public narrative in the prefaces to five orientalist English translations of Qur’an. To this end, subcategories of public narrative were explored using thematic analysis and based on the theoretical framework of Ganz (2008). The overall findings revealed that narrative of self and narrative of now are the most prevalent subcategories of public narrative in translators’ prefaces. The biggest ratio of the narrative of self was devoted to denigrating Qur’an and the prophet, while contradictorily, a large portion of the translators comments admitted the high status and position of Qur’an and Muhammad. This odd mixture reveals the contradictory stance of orientalists toward Islam and Muslims. Under the umbrella of the narrative of now, translators had reviewed the deficiencies of their counterparts, challenges of rendering Qur’an, and delicacies of communicating with Muslims. Comparing the contents of the translators’ prefaces reveals that although they follow the same familiar line of thought associated with orientalist translators of Qur’an, their focus on various categories and subcategories of public narrative is evident which arises from their different lived experiences and preconceptions of Qur’an. Findings were discussed and implications were provided for teachers and practitioners. | ||

| چکیده [English] | ||
